Virtual Case 6 Description

Option 1 (almost ALL of you should do this option):

For Virtual Case 6 you need to post three online reports, which list all of the purchases for YOU along with the products and amounts, as well as your total purchases and the first page of a list of those that purchased more than you.  The process works JUST LIKE VC4 and VC5, so hopefully you watched those videos.  There are also videos for VC6.

Note:  The videos show using a link to the reports in Classic View.  You do not need links… simply insert the images of your three reports.

You will need to carry out the following steps to complete your online reports:

  1. Download the following three Excel files:
    1. customers.xls (available now!!  Notify me immediately if you’re not listed in this file).
    2. products.xls
    3. orders.xls
  2. Import these Excel files into Access.
  3. Establish relationships between the three tables.
  4. Run the following three queries:
    1. Produce a list of YOUR (you are a customer) purchases, showing your first name, last name, product name purchased, and amount of purchase for each.  It’s possible you will have purchased nothing ($0).
    2. Get a total of all of YOUR purchases.
    3. Make a list of customers who have purchased more, in dollars, than you have.  Sort the list by total amount purchased, showing the amount just above yours (the smallest) first.
  5. Create a report for each of these queries.
  6. Do a screen shot of each of these three reports.  For report “c”, a screen shot of the first page of the report is sufficient if there is more than one page.
  7. Post your reports to your Google Sites page (whatever you used for VC1) on a new page named “VC6”.  YOU CANNOT CHOOSE YOUR PAGE NAME.  THIS MUST BE YOUR EXACT PAGE NAME.  15 points off for a bad or late page.  Check the link to your assignment from our main course web page!  If the TA has to ask you, or if you have to send an email explaining your URL, you get 15 points off.  So, the “VC6” page will be like a “main page”, with three links for the three reports.

Here’s the point breakdown for VC6 Option 1:

VC6 is a 100 point assignment.

10 points off:  For EACH week past the original deadline that your VC is posted late.

Since the TA grades Virtual Cases at the deadline shown on our online Course Schedule, if you are late finishing a VC, you must send an email to the TA giving notification when you complete it, and that is the date/time used to determine your point deduction.  If you do not send a notification to the TA via email, you will get a 0 on the Virtual Case.

0 points off:  page and three reports are attractive, nearly PERFECT both aesthetically and functionally.

5 points off:  at the TA’s discretion for poor layout, color scheme, etc.

100 points off:  no page shows when your VC6 is clicked on from the class Web page.

100 points off (plus possible Integrity Violation filing):  you do not use your own Customer ID.

15 points off:  you did the assignment correctly, but posted it to the wrong URL.

15 points off:  one of the reports is wrong or missing.

Option 2 (NOT recommended.  Most of you should NOT do this option):

If you cannot get Access to run on your laptop, you may complete Option 2.  Option 2 needs to be at least 10 pages (no maximum limit).  For your new VC6 page on your Google Site, include the following three sections:

1)      In detail, list and explain in your own words the steps to complete VC4 (video available on our online schedule).  This section can include screen shots from the tutorial video.  This section should be at least three pages long (in a standard Word document, before being posted to your Google Site).

2)      In detail, list and explain in your own words the steps to complete VC5 (video available on our online schedule).  This section can include screen shots from the tutorial video.  This section should be at least three pages long (in a standard Word document, before being posted to your Google Site).

3)      In detail, list and explain in your own words the steps to complete VC6 for YOUR Customer ID (video available on our online schedule).  This section can include screen shots from the tutorial videos, but you must list and discuss your Customer ID and how things will work for your specific ID.  This section should be at least four pages long (in a standard Word document, before being posted to your Google Site).
