OMIS 259
Individual Web Page
Web Page Assignment Description – OMIS 259 Facebook
Lite
[Note:
It is not required for you to list your email or phone number on your
resume or anywhere on this public web page.
It is recommended that you DO NOT.]
Much of technology is used to assist organizations with their processes, which are the set of activities they need to accomplish. The real Facebook uses technology (the Web) to improve the process of getting to know, communicating with, and staying current with your friends, family and others. We’re going to use the Web to facilitate the same processes for our class.
You need to create a Web page for yourself which has your
name, a picture of you, a short description of your background and career
goals, and a link to your resume. The video tutorial to complete this is below.
Get a free Google account. (or use the
one you already have)
For
your web site, you MUST name your site NIU<znumber>. So for example, my site would be named
NIUz035098. (UNLESS you have a different
web page, at which point please tell me here).
·
Here is a video tutorial to help you create
your Web page
(NOTE: This video shows an “Excel example page”,
just to show you how to add screenshots.
This is NOT required for your assignment)
Even though you’re just starting out in college, it’s good to begin thinking about your resume now. It will help you make decisions about what activities to pursue, what to do in the summer, and even what major you want to study! Career Services at NIU provides some resume samples here to get you started:
https://www.niu.edu/CareerServices/career-resources/resumes.shtml
Obviously you won’t have much professional experience, and your degree at NIU will be “expected in 2025” (or similar). So you’re making some guesses when completing your resume, and that’s fine.
Your background and career goals statement should be more polished. What have you done so far? Why did you choose your major and what do you hope to do professionally with your degree? This statement should be at least one full sentence but not longer than one paragraph.
Here’s the point breakdown for the web page assignment:
PTP0 is a 100 point
assignment.
10 points off: For EACH week past the original deadline that your web page is posted late.
Since the TA grades the web pages at
the deadline shown on our online Course Schedule, if you are late finishing
your web page, you must send an email to the TA giving notification when you
complete it, and that is the date/time used to determine your point
deduction. If you do not send a
notification to the TA via email, you will get a 0 on the web page assignment.
0 points off: page is creative, attractive, both aesthetically and functionally. Page is also accurate, provides useful information, and is professional.
5 points off: at the TA’s discretion for poor layout, color scheme, etc.
100 points off: no page shows when your name is clicked on from the class Web page (check this from our page!!).
15 points off: name is missing on main page.
15 points off: no link to resume or link to resume does not work.
15 points off: no background and career goals statement.
15 points off: resume is poorly done, unprofessional or non-sensical.
