6 Items Needed for Success for the online “Ice Class” of 1/23/19

1.       Check schedule to make sure you’ve completed required work for tonight, 1/23:

·         **** Register email, code, group, background. ****, can be done on course sign up page linked from front of main web site.

·         **** Google Web Site.  10 points off Participation if not completed ****, view videos linked from online schedule to get help.  If you want to follow the videos, when initially creating your Google site, click “Back to Classic Sites” which is usually in the lower left.  Click on link right before videos if you’re using a different web site URL.

2.       Watch 3 videos (less than 30 minutes total!) in Content area of Black Board

·         Module 1 Lesson 2 Business value from Big Data (43-58)

·         Module 1, Lesson 3: Data scientist (59-69)

·         Module 2: Lessons: Data analytics lifecycle overview (72-127)

3.       Complete NIUResponse 7-question “test” in Black Board by 10:00 p.m.

·         NIUResponse for today, 1/23/19, is under “Assessments” in Black Board.  This is for tonight’s Participation, and must be completed by 10:00 p.m., and is NOT a “normal” quiz.  It is for Participation and is 7 questions.  You can watch the videos first, with the test, or however you’d like to do it.  The only restriction is that the test closes at 10:00 p.m.

(recall that numbers in parentheses refer to SLIDE NUMBERS in the Participant Guide, to help you navigate information)

4.       Optionally participate in the Black Board collaborate session from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

5.       Begin completing Lab 1 (due at 6:00 p.m. next Wednesday, 1/30/19).  Please read my instructions linked from the online schedule carefully, and the Lab Guide carefully, prior to emailing me with issues.  So far, ALL of the emails I’ve received regarding Lab 1 could have been solved with careful attention to those documents.  REMEMBER:  Even ONE character off in Linux and things won’t work!!!

6.       Begin studying for Quiz 1, our first (of 5) REAL quizzes, given at the beginning of class next week, 1/30.  “How should I study?”  Check the NIUResponse questions, the Participant Guide and slides, the videos, do Lab 1, and CAREFULLY READ the Participant Guide.  I will be giving you two “free” questions since it’s your first quiz.  So, you could potentially get 108% (quizzes are 25 questions, but Quiz 1 will have 27 questions, 2 free)!
